The Rules

Welcome to BAKED Sunday Mornings. This is an online baking group dedicated to Baked Explorations, the 2nd  fabulous book by Matt Lews  and Renato Poliafito. We are going to bake our way through Baked Explorations one recipe at a time. And when we are finished with that we will start Baked: New Frontiers in Baking. It is going to be a very sweet adventure. We would love to have you join in the fun.
We want this to be fun and not a place where you feel like oh my gosh I only have 2 hours to bake a triple layer cake , write the post, take the photos  and comment on everyone else's  post..whew.  So the RULES are somewhat relaxed. We just ask that you follow them, pretty please.
  • Please pick up a copy of Baked Explorations
  • Bake  along as much as you can! There is no participation requirement.
  • Put your post up on your blog on  Sunday morning (Before noon on Sunday in your time zone)
  • Post the link to your site in the comments section of "Leave Your  Link" for the appropriate recipe. For example if you bake the Nutella Scones then go to the comments section of "Nutella Scones-Leave Your Link " and in the comments section post your link and any comments or helpful hints you may have.
  •  Please do not post the actual recipes on your blog. The original recipe will appear under the appropriate "Leave Your Link" prior to the due date.
We encourage everyone to purchase their own book in order to belong to the group. Let's get Baked.

  1. I'm in! Thanks for making the participation more relaxed. I will bake as often as I can! I have visited Baked in Brooklyn and loved it. I've also made a handful of recipes from New Frontiers and loved every single one!

    Thanks for starting this.

  2. Cool! Would you consider starting a facebook page and we can follow along there too (for those of us who do not maintain a blog) Perhaps the fb page would also encourage more "batter chatter" and troubleshooting help if someone has a baking backfire. regardless this sounds fun. I love the baked books!

  8. I'm in! I was just thinking someone needed to do this!

  9. I'm in! I have both books-love them. I've been to the Charleston location; great experience. THANKS that I don't have to make all the recipes every week; it's hard to fit that in with a M-F, 8-5 job. Looking forward to the adventure!!!!

  10. I'd like to do this but I don't have a blog- is there any way I can join?

  11. Welcome to all of you-this is going to be so much fun ! For those of you who don't have a blog, I'm working on an alternative so that you can join the fun. Everyone else , check the Baked Bloggers and make sure I have you listed if not send me an email at seattlepastrygirlatgmaildotcom and I will fix it ! Any suggestions would be welcome if you think something needs to be added/changed. This is our blog not just mine.

  13. This is very cool! I went to their class when they were in Austin, and I thought about starting my own bake through of their books so it will be nice to have a group to bake with.

  17. I'll give it a try. Hopefully I'll have better luck than I did with the Burnt Sugar bundt cake. It wasn't brown and it 'sunk' on cooling....

  21. For the non-bloggers: making a page on tumblr.com is a super easy (and free) way to have a go.

    ReplyDelete
  22. LG thanks for the heads up with tumblr.com ! For non bloggers out there it is super simple. I did a test set up and it took me less than 3 minutes to set up. Just log in with your email, create a password and a name and you are good to go. You can personalize it as much or as little as you like. I did a test under soupsand.tumblr.com to see how I could post comments here. It's great-definitely check it out.

  23. I'm IN!

Question: Would it be acceptable to do mini portions? I know it's not always kosher to halve a recipe, but if I could make a mini tart or a few scones, it would make my waist and roommate happier.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Emily,
No problem with the mini portions..what great self discipline !

  25. Looks like I just may have to get the second book before Christmas! This looks like so much fun, thanks for setting this up for us!

  26. @AmandaLP, I won the books too! Anybody else?
Dear Baked publishers, your promo books are working for you...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Congratulations to Amanda from Empirical Baker. She took 1st place in Best Presentation and 2nd place in the popular vote at the Brownie Bakeoff in Brooklyn-Matt & Renato were 2 of the judges. Way to go Amanda ! Check it out at her blog :

And just 6 days before our first recipe !!

  28. For those of you without a blog-I would definitely suggest tumblr.com. The alternative is you - send me your favorite photo of your results via email (no more than 800pixels please) and I will post it on the new page I have created "Got Blog?" , you can put your comments there . I will do that indefinitely or until we get too large for me too handle !! I'm hesitant to create a Facebook page, one because it's more work for me :) and two I don't want to compete with the BAKED Facebook page. I hope either tumblr.com or the new page works for those of you without a blog .

  36. Is there a way we can make a place to ask questions before we post our results? Just looking the Almond Joy recipe online ... a few different bloggers/websites have it published and my copy of the cookbook is in the mail. I have a question about the tart dough. Do you put the tart pan in the freezer for 30 min & then put the dough into the pan or do we put the pan with the dough already in it in the freezer for 30 min?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hello Frolicking Night Owl-just post any problems or questions here. That's one less page I need to check for comments ! And you can put the tart pan in the freezer with the dough already in it . Welcome to the group

  38. Thank you *so* much for setting this group up and giving these books the attention they rightly deserve!! So looking forward to getting Baked with you all! :)

  43. Hi! I just found this site. Is it too late to join in the fun? I don't have a blog, but will check out the above suggestion if I can participate. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jennifer,
It's never too late to join , welcome

    ReplyDelete
  45. i think this is a great idea for everyone to get their Baked fix, but did you guys actually get permission from Baked to share the recipes on this blog? if everyone participating already has the book, why post the recipe? just curious, b/c if you really respect Baked's work, then you should encourage people to buy the cookbooks and not give them out for free here. just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi,
I just found this too! Sounds like fun! I am in.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lillian,
We definitely encourage ane want people to buy the book and not publish the recipe on their sites since it's published here. And yes we have permission from Matt & Renato to publish here...they even put links to us on the Baked Facebook page. Thanks for your comments and hope you join us baking along.

  51. I'd love to joint this group! Do you still have openings?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hello Susan, Yes you can join the group . I tried adding your blog site to the list of Baked Bloggers and instead of displaying as Create Amazing Meals it displays as some website review ?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank you so much! I'm so excited! That's weird...it should work as: www.createamazingmeals.com Please let me know if that works.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mystery solved. Evidently, one of the problems Blogger was trying to resolve over the last couple of days was people being mis-directed when trying to reach some of the blogs. I hope that's what you experienced when trying to find mine and that it's resolved now. Thanks, again!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I would love to join! What do I need to do?
